Baidu releases Ernie Bot chatbot, for AI solutions

Chinese search giant and AI solution provider Baidu unveiled（公布） its artificial intelligence-powered（人工智能驱动的） chatbot（一种聊天程序） on Thursday. This becomes the first major Chinese campany to unveil a deep-learning model after ChatGPT.

Baidu CEO（首席执行官，全称：chief executive officer） Robin Li told a press conference（新闻发布会） in Beijing that Ernie Bot（文心一言） is not a countermeasure（对抗措施，对策） against OpenAI's initiative（方案）, but a natural result from its long-term research efforts.

He expected AI-powered（人工智能驱动的） models to be a game changer, and would become easily accessible as a format（格式） of cloud service for many industries.

More than 30 000 companies have applied to（向...申请） join the test version through application programming（应用程序） interface（接口，界面）（应用程序接口） following the Thursday afternoon release.

But Baidu's Hong Kong-listed（上市的，挂牌的） shares（港股，香港上市的股票） tumbled（暴跌） as much as（多达） 10 percent in the afternoon before closing down（倒闭，停业） 6.4 percent since the functions of Ernie Bot were presented through pre-recorded（预先录制的） videos rather than（而不是） real-time（实时的）.

Industry watchers said Baidu's stock has already climbed high prior to the official announcement（公布，公告）, and the current version won't have much significant impact on its earnings（利润） in the short term.
